About Session

From Session Leader Maggie Elizabeth May:

"We had such a lively Sing For Your Seniors Session on Friday! Miss Vivian, the recreation director for Central Harlem, is an incredible leader. She always sends an email blast before the session to rally the troops. It’s always so good to connect with her and the rest of the members of Central Harlem.

We have the highest attendance with Central Harlem and we can always feel their energy, even through Zoom. Many seniors Zoomed in from home, and so did a group from the Dining Room at Central Harlem!

We were so grateful for our two singers, Ben and Cynthia, who saved the day with a private concert. The multitalented Ben accompanied himself on the piano while singing classics such as “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” and Carole King’s “You’ve Got A Friend” (he even whistled in tune with “What A Wonderful World” and a senior commented “My hubby will benefit from this; just reminds me how much I love him.”).

Ben got some of our seniors to sing along with his soulful rendition of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” and Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons’ “You’re Just Too Good To Be True.” Ben’s voice is as smooth as butter.

Staying on a Carole King kick, Cynthia opened with a soulful “I Feel The Earth Move,” followed by “It’s Raining Men,” which got our seniors to bust out some moves!

We all had a ball when she sang Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It.” Cynthia has such a fun presence and her voice is stellar.

Our seniors were so active in the Zoom chat. My favorite comments were “You took me back in time” and “Ya’all killing me with love!” That’s how the session felt today: pure love.

Thank you again to Ben and Cynthia for such a wonderful session. We can’t wait to be back at Central Harlem next month!"
