About Session

The seniors with the American Folk Art Museum were so welcoming and energetic today! Hanley’s beautiful rendition of “The Sound of Music” prompted one of our seniors, Esther, to express her deep love for the story and song and the deep meaning they hold for her. Then she and her son brought out his “The Sound of Music” record she had bought for him as a child.

These moments reminded everyone in the session of the beauty and power of music. Music truly has the power to connect people, like it did today as we Zoomed in from all over the country.

The fabulous duo, Gibby’s Joint, brought wonderful music we all knew, including Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” It’s so wonderful to have them playing live on the guitar and singing together. Sticking to the folksy theme, Meg sang Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now,” getting many of our seniors to sing along. At the end of the session, Richard excitedly proclaimed “We will be back again!”
