About Session

From SFYS Founder and Producing Artistic Director Jackie Vanderbeck: Music has a meaningful way of reaching memories, inspiring joy and connecting us to each other through shared emotion. Yesterday’s session with the Alzheimer’s Association - Hudson Valley shows us just how important musical engagement can be for people in all stages of dementia. And for us at SFYS, it’s such a magical thing to be a part of.

SFYS Artists, Beth DeMichele, Taylor Rey, Jean McCormick, Joe Chojnaki and multi-instrumentalist Mark Klett created a warm and energetic space for our audience to enjoy an hour of songs, including “Fly Me To the Moon,”“I Want You To Be My Baby,” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.” I loved watching the smiles of recognition, and the joyful energy of people dancing in their chairs. The Zoom room seemed to melt away as we all enjoyed each other’s company, surrounded by beautiful music.
