About Session

From SFYS Artist Napoleon Douglas: What a beautiful day in the city to spend time with the wonderful seniors of Encore Community Services IN-PERSON. Yes, this is not a drill. Sing For Your Seniors is slowly transitioning back to in-person sessions, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Today was only Melanie's 2nd in-person session, but you couldn’t tell by the way she was connecting with our listeners. Her version of “What I Did For Love” was so powerful and elegantly sung. It truly reminded all of us why we love sharing and experiencing music so much.

Davon’s set was immaculate, introducing jazz and pop into the musical theatre mix today. But it was his “The Impossible Dream” that stole the show. It touched so many seniors who - like Davon - had the chance to experience the great Brian Stokes Mitchell perform the piece years ago. Davon filled the shoes well.

Megan, who is always a treat, didn’t disappoint. One of our “Queens of the Golden Age”, she brought the house down with “I Could Have Danced All Night”. Her animation and storytelling in all of her pieces is truly magnetic, and motivates me to perform even more energetically.

It felt like home again, with Mason on the keys. We often overlook the collaboration between singer and pianist, but after months of singing to pre-recorded tracks, we were all incredibly grateful for his wonderful musicianship today.

Overall, a marvelous day. So glad we could be back at Encore and even happier that their community could join us safely.
