About Session

The streets of New York are covered in ice, but the singing and community inside the 92nd Street Y session warmed everyone’s hearts.

We provided lyric sheets to our Golden Age selections, and the elders eagerly joined us for rousing renditions of “If I Were a Rich Man,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “Moon River” and many more. Ron and Traci shared a lovely duet of “Once Upon a Time.” Then Ren and Rachel impressed the audience with Offenbach’s “Barcarolle.”

When the session came to an end, the elders called out for at least five more songs, clearly not ready for the music to stop. Then a 90-year-old man requested “I Hate to Get Up in the Morning” and proudly belted out the old army song lyrics, bringing the room to its feet in applause.

Our amazing pianist, Jeffrey, added depth and nuance to every selection. We are thrilled about our new monthly partnership at the Y and can’t wait to return.
