What do some of our performers think about Sing For Your Seniors, Inc.?

“SFYS is not only a precious idea but it’s a true testament about giving back to others. The joy on people’s faces to hear ‘young folk’ sing was priceless. I had an absolutely wonderful time and what Jackie does with this group is truly special. If you ever get a chance to do it, DO SO. Plus, it’s like a free coaching. Screw up all you want… no one cares!! HEAVEN! Thanks for having me, Jackson!”

— Danny McNie, Performer

“Yesterday’s SFYS session at Calvary Hospital was great! What a beautiful facility! I really felt like we made a difference in the patients’ and their families’ day! I can’t wait to go again and know that my voice can really make a difference!”

— Christine Rowan, performer

“I had a great time yesterday at the Calvary Hospital! The event was really well organized, the venue is gorgeous, and it really felt like the patients enjoyed our songs! It’s so nice to feel like we bring some light into their day. Also, and I’ve never really noticed this before, it felt like we really brightened up the friends’ and family’s days, too… so a good day all around, I think! Thanks, Jackie!”

— Kate Chadwick, performer

“I’m so happy I finally made it to one of the Sing For Your Seniors Events! I had such a wonderful time and have already recommended this group to several of my friends! I can’t wait to do it again sometime soon!”

— Elisa Pupko Pope, performer

“Thanks again for creating this WONDERFUL experience. I am so grateful for the opportunity to sing for the seniors at the day center yesterday, and I look forward to more afternoons of singing for appreciative, wonderful people!”

— Kellie Drinkhahn, performer

“I had such a wonderful time at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. After singing only 16 bars at auditions it was so wonderful to sing an entire song. It helped remind me why I decided to being a performer. It is so wonderful to let people escape their real life for a moment to share a story. It was great to have an audience eager to hear you sing. I really enjoyed talking to all the seniors and making that connection. I look forward to coming back. It is great to have a reason to learn some new material. Thanks so much for inviting me Jackie. I look forward to telling other singer about it so they can share in the joy!”

— Julie Marie Eberhart, performer

“SFYS is a most amazing experience!! I had a great time yesterday at Calvary Hospital, met incredible people, and sang for the love and absolute joy of it. Not only are you making a difference in people’s lives by doing something as simple as sharing your voice and your presence, you’re having a great time doing it! And you get to sing more than 16 bars! Sign me up for more!!”

— Niffer Clarke, performer

“I had such a good time singing at the Calvary Hospital! Music is such a powerful presence in our lives and it always feels so good to not only share that but see it mean so much to others as well.”

— Kamryn Conn, performer

“SFYS is an AMAZING program filled to the brim with positive energy and love. Being able to share our passion with people who really need and appreciate it is incredibly fulfilling for everyone in the room and I always look forward to seeing the familiar faces and learning about these beautiful people and their lives. Give it a try!”

— Brett Teresa, performer

“Bringing smiles, laughter and tears to all the patients at the Calvary Hospital was awesome and allowing them to let go the ‘sickness’ for a while and just to have some fun made this a heartwarming experience. Giving the gift of song is a wonderful opportunity. Thanks SFYS!”

— Kimberly Faye Greenberg, performer

“I seriously have SUCH a great time at SYFS. I cannot help but leave there with a HUGE smile on my face. I know we’re supposed to be brightening the seniors’ day, but I always feel like it’s them brightening mine! These people are a truly appreciative audience and remind us all why we love what we do!”

— Valerie Williams, performer

“SFYS is so much fun! Laid back, hilarious, moving, and just makes ya feel good. I’d do it 7 days a week if I could.”

— Mathew Tweardy, performer

“I had such an incredible experience singing for our seniors! It helped me remember what joy music brings to everyone, myself included. Such a laid back, fun environment to meet seniors, and bop our heads, and sway to the music together. It’s also a wonderful way to make new friends in the city. I can’t wait for the next one! Thank you Jackie for your passion and commitment to building this organization and for inspiring me with the sunshine you bring into the room.”

— Mara Davi Gaines, performer

“I just sang with SFYS for the first time yesterday, and I loved every minute of it! There was so much joy in that room, and I can’t wait to go back. It’s wonderful to have found a group of performers that want to give back and to see the benefits of doing just that. A woman told me that our singing had “gone straight through her soul.” How often as performers do we get that kind of feedback?!?! SFYS is really what performing is about.”

— Emily Dake, performer

“I have volunteered at every place that SFYS has visited and every one has been an unforgettable experience. Not to mention, working with someone like Jackie Vanderbeck is a dream come true for any performer! Come share your stories, your art and I promise, your heart will sing like never before.”

— Kyle Smith, performer

“I think Sing For Your Singers is such a valuable gift, and not just for the seniors. For those of us who’ve been fortunate enough to perform, it’s a chance to simply sing for people who enjoy hearing music! So much of a performers’ existence in this crazy business is performing to book a gig, impress somebody, conform to whatever part you are trying to book, etc, etc. With Sing For Your Seniors, you get a fresh perspective again. A renewed joy in just ENJOYING the act of singing. I highly recommend taking part if you never have before. I’m grateful that I have been able to participate a few times and hope to do it many more times in the future.”

— Leslie Henstock, performer

“What a wonderful experience this was! I really believe everyone should do this at least once — this is an audience like none other, and you can see and feel the appreciation they have for us being there. There is nothing better than watching them smile as we perform. Meeting and talking to the people I did was so interesting; one woman, whose husband was playing piano amazingly by EAR (at 95 years old), told me about her life with him, and that he plays and sings to her every day. Having this experience is so refreshing, and there is no pressure whatsoever. I had a great time!”
